Tea Sommeliers (Experts) a beginners guide

A short descriptive on Tea Sommeliers and their place in the World of enjoying Tea.

Where to Start

I found it interesting when we started this venture on how diverse teas can be. But then we started to read Tea Books and seek advice from the writings of Tea Sommeliers. But what makes someone an expert? Well we Googled it and on an mnn site found this we quote

” Like a wine expert, a Tea Sommelier is a person who has training and expertise (and plenty of personal knowledge) about how teas are made, how they should be brewed, and what their potential effects are on the body and mind. “

Books

There’s a lot more to it, like wine sommeliers , Tea Sommeliers can teach you about the development and history of tea. Tea Sommeliers can inform about the different regions teas come from and their different nuances. The effect of the caffeine content, the health giving values etc. We are learning all the time and if you wish to enhance your knowledge and enjoyment of this great subject might we recommend a recent purchase of ours “Tea History Terroirs Varieties” . It’s in it’s third edition and is a mine of information, written by four great Tea Sommeliers. https://www.amazon.co.uk/gp/product/0228100275/ref=ppx_yo_dt_b_asin_title_o01_s00?ie=UTF8&psc=1

Courses?

To become a Tea Sommelier one can take courses, whilst not cheap they are worth every penny. But before embarking on a course we suggest you check your Tea Sommeliers background. Why not look up your local “Whats On” and see if you can find a tea tasting evening at a good tea shop. Even enquire if they would like to organise one for you and perhaps half a dozen friends interested in tea. I’m sure the proprietor would oblige, because after all you’re all potential customers, you can learn off one anothers likes and dislikes. A win win for you both.

I hope this has whetted your appetites to seek out your local Tea Sommelier!
